Up until now, the looks that fans have received at the anticipated Assassin’s Creed 3 have focused primarily on open battlefields, wooded lots and colonial soldier camps. This time around, creative director Alex Hutchinson gives fans a glimpse of how city gameplay has evolved for the 2012 entry into the Assassin’s Creed series.
Assassin’s Creed 3 will feature colonial versions of New York and Boston. Both cities have been recreated by the team at Ubisoft Montreal using historical colonial-era maps and have been scaled to be one-third their sizes at the time. Players will notice that Connor, the new assassin protagonist, has a lot of the same moves as his predecessors, but he also has quite a few new tricks. From jumping into moving carts that are filled with hay and assassinating enemies as the cart progresses, to a new wall-based cover system and new “stalking zones,” Assassin’s Creed 3 looks as though it will receive the stealth upgrade that the series truly needs and deserves.
In addition to the focus on stealth mechanics within the city, Hutchinson goes on to demonstrate how combat, free-running and contextual assassinations will bring the series to the next level. Assassin’s Creed 3 is set to release on October 30, 2012 in North America, while PAL territories will see the title a day later.
