‘Assassin’s Creed: Revelations’ new characters

Ezio will discover Altair's shrouded past.

There are some old and new faces appearing in the upcoming Ubisoft release, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. The third installment of the series sets Ezio Auditore da Firenze in the legendary ancient city of Constantinople, which was the former capital city of the Roman Empire. AC: Revelations is keeping the series’ trademark mix of historical accuracy and outlandish conspiracies with historical figures finding their way into the history of Desmond Miles’ ancestors.

Many of these figures will find their way into both the single player and multiplayer parts of the game. One interesting angle that Ubisoft will explore this time around is the history of Altair and players will finally “get a clear picture of exactly what Altaïr discovered all those centuries ago.” Instead of experiencing Altair’s history as Desmond, the player will assume direct control of the mysterious assassin. These playable events will instead by triggered by objects Ezio collects along the way.

Some of the new characters include Manuel Palaeologos, Sofia Sorto, Prince Suleiman and Yusuf Tazim. Two of the four new characters detailed in the GameInformer article are of actual historical presence. Manuel, once being an heir apparent to the Byzantine Empire, is a wealthy figure who left the political life behind to live in luxury. Prince Suleiman is known as Suleiman the Mangificant, a famous sultan of the Ottoman Empire. However, Ezio meets Suleiman as a young prince.

Two new fictional characters are also being thrown into the mix with Sorto and Tazin. Sorto is the love interest of Ezio, and is inspired by the famous painting by Albrecht Durer entitled Portrait of a Young Venetian Woman. Tazim is a fellow assassin who aids Ezio in navigating Constantinople by providing him with a weapon called the hook blade.

Ubisoft also revealed Four new classes for the multiplayer aspect of the game. The Vanguard, The Guardian, The Bombardier and The Sentinal all come into AC: Revelations to add a little excitement to competitive multiplayer. The Vanguard is a female scout and spy who was seduced into working for the Ottoman Empire. The Guardian is a fanatical follower of the Templar philosophy. The Bombardier is an Ottoman artillery corps member, but is actually a spy for an anti-Ottoman group. The Sentinal is a former assassin who got in a bit of a tiff with The Order after they agreed to a truce with the Ottoman Empire.

The interesting tidbit  is that these multiplayer characters will also play some kind of role — or perhaps make appearances — in the single player campaign. Ubisoft also gave these characters fleshed out stories to compliment a more story driven multiplayer element.

Assassin’s Creed Revelations is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal and will be released on Xbox 360, PC and PS3 in November 2011.

Thought this was going to be an article on that new face that cropped up in one of the assassins creed revelation trailers. The bit where it flashes between ezio and altiar, then shows a new face for like a millisecond.
