Blizzard Arcade will allow players to monetize their mods

Back in August, when asked about their failures, Blizzard acknowledged that they did not fulfill Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty‘s potential with the Blizzard Marketplace. It has been announced at Blizzcon that Blizzard has an entire revamp to the Marketplace up their sleeve: Blizzard Arcade. The Arcade will allow gamers to not only showcase their mods, but to also monetize them. That’s right: Blizzard will let gamers make money off the age-old art of modding. To say this is an incredible leap forward on Blizzard’s behalf may understate this.

Blizzard has found a way to monetize that which gamers have done since the dawn of PC gaming.

Blizzard Arcade will allow modders to upload their mods, where gamers may then select them via a series of quality measurements. The interface will highlight new and upcoming games, as well as those which are most popular and highest rated. The goal being to not only make it easier for players to find quality mods, but also to incentivize quality control. The Arcade will also include free mods, as well as those for sale, and mods for the Starter Edition, Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty and the Heart of the Swarm expansion.

In addition to this revamp, Blizzard will also give the Tools and Editor an overhaul, with an improved UI editor, debugging tool and art tools.
