CD Projekt RED unveils first ‘Cyberpunk 2077′ trailer

After sending most of the internet into a raving fangasm last year, CD Projekt RED has unveiled the first official trailer for Cyberpunk 2077. While the trailer doesn’t feature much by way of gameplay, the accompanying release gives us a few more details on the much anticipated RPG.

For those unfamiliar, Cyberpunk 2077 is based off the wildly popular pen and paper RPG, “Cyberpunk 2020,” and features a more grim look at the future of augmentation than, say, Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The trailer above shows “…shows how the Psycho Squad might acquire a new member. The Psycho Squad specializes in combating “psychos” – individuals who overuse implants and substances that boost or otherwise alter the human body.”

CD Projekt RED has been very tight-lipped about the project aside from assuring fans of the franchise that they will remain quite faithful to the core concept. On Thursday, they revealed a few more details, including a concept called the “Braindance.” These are electronic recordings which quite literally record every aspect of a person’s experiences ranging from emotions, sensations and audio/visuals.

From the release, it sounds as though the Braindances will play a key role in both gameplay and the central story, which highlights the difference between the haves and have-nots. “The gap between high and low is bigger than ever. Drugs, violence, braindance, psychos on the loose… Will you be able to function in this defunct society or end up a BD-junky with nothing left, set aside like garbage – still living someone’s else life –not aware of what’s going on around you?” (For the record, if you can have Wolverine-style scythes on your wrists, that might be worth the latter option. Just sayin’)

No official release date yet, but we’re crossing our fingers for more details around PAX or E3.

About Jen Bosier

Jen lives with her husband, daughter and super-villain cats. If she's not reading comics or engrossed in a WH40k novel, she's probably telling you which horror games you should be playing. She's a recovering member of the PC Master Race, and a reluctant Xbox fangirl. You can also find her on the Furious Fourcast.

  1. Looks like it features zilch in terms of gameplay. In fact, it looks like they CGI cutscene’d a CGI cutscene. Cutscene-ception. Interesting trailer though, page taken directly out of the Dead Island playbook but with a less emotionally manipulative bent.

  2. Mind blowing idea’s here. Jacob’s right though there’s zero given on term’s of gameplay. I’ll keep an eye on this one for sure though, I enjoy their past work. I’ll be listening on Feburary 5th for CD Projekt RED’s next announcement.
