‘Grand Theft Auto V’ release date pushed back to September

GTAV date 300x168 Grand Theft Auto V release date pushed back to SeptemberRockstar broke the bad news today that Grand Theft Auto V title would be pushed back by four months, which also opened the door to some next-gen speculation.

GTA V is now slated for release on September 17th. Rockstar said in a release on their website they apologized for the delay, but that it would be “worth the extra time.” Rockstar also said they would be releasing official box art soon.

GTA V is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require,” the release said.

People in the comments section also suggested the delay may mean GTA V was pushed back so it could debut on next-gen consoles. However, most estimates have put those consoles launching around October or later, and it would make more sense for Rockstar to try and put their “ambitious” title on as many machines a possible, which means a regular console release since they would still have the biggest share of the market.

Also, it’s a larger-than-average AAA title. By now we’ve all come to expect at least one delay like this before those kinds of games launch, right?
