Harmonix Announces Soundgarden Six-Pack for ‘Rock Band 3′

After the unlikely happened with Soundgarden announcing a summer reunion tour, the even more unlikely happened as Harmonix announced that a Soundgarden DLC pack would be arriving on Rock Band 3 this month. Why was a Soundgarden DLC announcement so surprising? Well, after Activision released Soundgarden’s Telephantasm greatest hits album, it appeared as though the Guitar Hero franchise had secured exclusive rights to the legendary 90’s rocker’s library. Even the previously exportable “Black Hole Sun” from the original Rock Band was not playable in Rock Band 3.

Today, Harmonix revealed the official list of songs coming in the Soundgarden six-pack near the end of this month. As an enormous Soundgarden fan, I have to say that the pack is near perfect when you look at the tracks that have already been released on the Rock Band platform. The only song that really got snubbed here, in my opinion, was their hard rocker “Superunknown.” Other than that slight omission, every track in the newly announced pack is both a fan favorite and a huge hit.

Concurrently announced by Harmonix was a contest that will allow rockers to win the six-pack a bit early. While Harmonix listed the official rules here, the gist of the contest is that you just have to tweet with the tag #SoundgardenRB before the end of July 12th to be entered. Go tweet away (and be sure to follow us on Twitter, while you’re at it!) and check out the song list below. The “Celebrating Soundgarden on Tour 2011″ pack releases on July 19th on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii.

  • Blow Up the Outside World
  • Burden in my Hand
  • The Day I Tried to Live
  • Fell on Black Days
  • Outshined
  • Rusty Cage
