Is this proof that Mega Man will return in ‘Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3?’

At the New York Comic-Con today, Capcom released new trailers that showcased Phoenix Wright and Nova for Ultimate¬†Marvel vs. Capcom 3. While this was the big news Capcom was trying to show off, they may have coyly snuck in a peek of the game’s future in the background of one of the levels. While we’re categorizing this firmly as a rumor, it could mean the return of everyone’s favorite blue hero, Mega Man.

MegaMan UMVC3 Is this proof that Mega Man will return in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3?

Mega Man is the only character on the board who has not been slain or apprehended. Coincidence?

In the background of a level shown in the trailers, there is a poster — an homage to The Uncanny X-Men #141 — that has a variety of Marvel and Capcom characters on it. All of the characters shown were fighters that were in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, but didn’t make the cut into Marvel vs. Capcom 3 or Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. ¬†However, one stands out among the crowd, and that’s Mega Man. Mega Man is the only character on the board who does not have a slain or apprehended label, meaning at the very least in the game’s universe, he’s out there. While this is complete speculation, it would be hard to imagine Capcom separating Mega Man from the bunch in this situation for aesthetics alone, simply based on the fact of how badly people want him back.

Fans have been rebelling against Capcom as of late for their treatment of the character and his franchise, as they seem to have abandoned him for the most part, when you consider Mega Man Legends 3 getting cancelled and him getting snubbed from the cast of MvC3 and UMvC3. This poster might just be a message to fans saying he’s not dead in a sense, but I think there’s a very good chance that he is going to make his comeback as DLC, as he was already heavily requested.

Credit for the find goes out to YouTuber TheScreamingGoblin, who made the observation in the Nova vignette.
