In just over three hours from the time of this post, Nintendo will be hosting a special 10-minute Nintendo Direct focused exclusively on a new Pokémon-related announcement today. December was full of hints from Game Freak and The Pokémon Company that 2013 would be a big year for Pokémon, and we finally received confirmation by way of Twitter that the company would be revealing some “big news” on January 8th.
The big news will be revealed on a “mini” Nintendo Direct released simultaneously worldwide at 6 am EST. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata is said to be making the announcement, so we assume the European and American feeds will be subtitled.
While many fans have met this “announcement of an announcement” with cynical skepticism, Pokémon creator and Game Freak director Junichi Masuda is much more positive on his blog, stating:
“On Tuesday, 8th of January. At 8.00pm of Japan time,
we will announce some Pokémon news to everyone!!
I would like everyone to check it out!
I would like everyone to share this moment with
your family, love ones, friends and colleagues!!”
Could this be the first main series entry exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS that fans have been clamoring for since the handheld released in 2011, or will it be another throwaway spinoff? Time will only tell, but one thing’s for sure: All eyes will be on the stream hoping for big news when it goes live in a mere few hours.
