“Project Blackstone” domain registered by Blizzard

Blizzard logo 300x176 Project Blackstone domain registered by BlizzardThe folks in blue over at Blizzard Entertainment have something up their voluminous (and money-filled) sleeves. They just registered the domain “Project Blackstone” this week, with no immediate clue as to what it may refer to.

Fusible.com has done some digging on this, and turned up that the domain ProjectBlackstone.com was owned at one time by someone in Texas, but it expired last year and registered by Blizzard on Nov. 26. The website doesn’t resolve into a web page, so what it’s for remains a bit of a mystery.

We know that Blizzard has been working on a number of future projects, including their mysterious next-generation MMO code-named “Titan”. However, we don’t have any information yet that would seem to point to a “Project Blackstone” being connected to them.

With that out of the way, it’s time to engage in one of our favorite pastimes: rampant speculation. Could it be a new IP? Blizzard has several different stripes of the fantasy genres handled with their Diablo and Warcraft franchises, and StarCraft takes care of the sci-fi angle, but there’s no reason they couldn’t add on to the sci-fi fold. Is it connected to Titan, and if so how? Could it be a hint of  WoW’s next expansion?

Until we get an actual website on that domain, we’ll have to fill in the white space with our completely unfounded and overblown hopes and dreams. Make it happen, Blizzard!
