SEGA details ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2′ with first trailer
After Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 left many people more than just a little disappointed, the only hope that remained for this supposed return to greatness for everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog was the fact that it was being released episodically. Not only did this mean that the game’s scope would be extended beyond the average digital release, but, most importantly, it meant that SEGA and Sonic Team would be able to make the various improvements that the first episode needed.
According to the GameSpot exclusive video above, SEGA will be tapping one of its most beloved villains, Metal Sonic, in this episode. In addition, Sonic’s furry flying companion Tails will be included into the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 equation through Episode 2. The teaser trailer doesn’t really reveal much beyond that (aside from a 2012 release date), but SEGA’s digital brand manager, Ken Balough, was much more willing to elaborate.
“We listened tremendously during Episode 1,” said Balough. “Our fans [...] said this is what we really liked about Episode 1, this is where we’d love to make some changes in Episode 1. And I want to reassure our fans that we listened very accurately, and we’d like to be able to tell everyone that not only are we announcing Episode 2 today, but we’re also letting everybody know that we have a brand new graphics engine and a brand new physics engine in Episode 2.”
The physics engine that Balough mentioned was the most-needed change from the first part of Sonic 4, so that announcement should be received very well by fans. Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 is presently announced for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Android, iOS, and Windows 7 Phone. No Wii or Wii U version has been announced, meaning that, barring a new announcement, SEGA’s abandoning of the Wii will continue from Sonic Generations. Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 is scheduled for release sometime in 2012.

Hopefully they’ll learn a thing or two from Generations and the recent Sonic CD re-release.
Oh, and OH MY GOD, BALOUGH’S FACE. GREATEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN.
