The Xbox platform has seen numerous special edition incarnations spanning back to the original Xbox (Panzer Dragoon Orta console, anyone?) but none are as drool-worthy as this newly announced Limited Edition Halo 4 bundle. Microsoft unveiled the Halo 4-themed console in front of fans at San Diego Comic Con today, and we had to rush online to gush about it.
The console releases day and date with Halo 4 on November 6, 2012, but understandably pre-orders are underway right now — expect this to sell out quickly. The bundle includes the custom console you see above, two wireless controllers inspired by the game’s aesthetics, a 320GB hard drive, a wired headset, built in Wi-Fi (standard on the Xbox 360 S), and Xbox LIVE tokens granting players exclusive Halo 4 in-game and avatar content (though what specifically hasn’t been revealed). Most notable is the ring of light, which is now a cool blue as opposed to the iconic green.
Fortunately for those of us who can’t drop $399.99 on this Halo 4 console, Microsoft is also releasing a standalone limited edition controller (right). Its ring of light also glows blue, and will retail for $59.99.
If ever we had a case of hardware lust, this is it; it’s easily the most beautiful custom console Microsoft has ever designed.
