While VGW doesn’t consider a box art reveal “news” (in fact, it’s in our mission statement that box art is NOT news), when the box art is the first for a new platform, it’s definitely nice to see the design for the first time. Today, we have our first look at the box art design of the upcoming Nintendo Wii U’s software.
The images came from both Amazon.ca and Target.com, giving fans a look at the box art design of Wii U games. The blue swoosh at the top features similarities to that of the Wii’s software packaging, but it definitely differentiates itself through the use of color and, of course, the Wii U logo. Also prominently featured is the orange Nintendo Network logo.
GameTrailers.com reached out to Ubisoft and Nintendo earlier today regarding these images. While Nintendo would not comment on the box art, a Ubisoft spokesperson was willing to confirm the images as legitimate. Following this release, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for us to see more publishers begin to release their box art designs in the near future. Now, all we need is for Nintendo to tell us when we’ll be able to finally get our hands on its upcoming console and we’ll be all set.
Check out the box art for Ubisoft’s Avengers: Battle for Earth, Assassin’s Creed III and Just Dance 4 and voice your thoughts on the platform’s software art design in the comments below.
