Upcoming ‘Rocksmith’ DLC features Deep Purple, Boston, Allman Brothers
Ubisoft is delivering on its promise to extend the Rocksmith catalog by announcing the “Rock Hits 1970′s Pack” for November 15, as well as 3 new songs available now via the Playstation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace.
Today marks the release of “Freebird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, “Bodysnatchers” by Radiohead (both available to pre-order customers) and “Tighten Up” by The Black Keys. We couldn’t even master “Freebird” on a fake plastic guitar, so the prospect of playing this one in Master Mode could very well be a goal that takes months or even years to achieve.
What excites us, however, are the tracks available on November 15: Dubbed the “Rock Hits 1970′s Pack,” it includes “Smoke On The Water” by Deep Purple, “More Than A Feeling” by Boston and “Jessica” by The Allman Brothers Band. “Smoke on the Water” is another great entry point for beginners, while “More Than a Feeling” should prove to flex your picking skills and reinforce fret transitions. “Jessica,” however, has the potential to ruin you. It begins with a simple enough riff but evolves into an epic, solo-heavy instrumental that will require patience, calluses, and tons of practice.
All of the songs above will be available for $2.99 each.

Wow. $3 per song is kinda pricey. I hope they’ll get bigger packs for better value, soon. Something like 10 songs for $7.50
Look at it this way. If you’re a determined guitarist, do you know how much time you’ll get out of Freebird? That song could potentially take weeks upon weeks, if not months and months to play well. And all of that is for $3. Compare that to a $2 Rock Band/Guitar Hero song. If you’re an experienced player, you play it on expert as soon as you buy it, you get familiar with it after a few tries, and then you’re able to play the whole song. So $2 for about an hour’s worth of content compared to $3 for months’ worth of content. I think it’s a steal to be selling these songs at $3!
True. Relatively, it’s a lot more value than RB/GH tracks.
But I never understood why anyone would buy those at such prices in the first place, so – to me – it makes little sense to compare with them.
Either way, I’m probably sticking to the standard songs first. Maybe after a while I’ll invest in some extra songs, depending on the DLC available by then. I’d love to see some rougher stuff myself, like Alter Bridge or Avenged Sevenfold. The Muse tracks are great, but I’d like to see some more.
GREAT FIRST ROUND OF DLC!!! December cant come soon enough, cant wait to play this game. Damn me and my PC copy.
I think they should do a hardest songs ever pack including
Eruption by Van Halen
I’m The Hell Outta Here by Steve Vai
Red Devil by Yngwie Malmsteen
Sequoia Throne by Protest the HeroSatch Boogie by Joe Satriani
Highly Strung by Orianthi and Steve Vai
