Though Wii U owners have been able to play their Wii content by uploading it to their Wii Us—to include their Virtual Console games—so far they have not been able to strictly play them on the GamePad. Based on a statement from Nintendo, that will hopefully change.
This claim came about while Kotaku editor Jason Screier was conducting research for an editorial. ”We are moving ahead with development of Virtual Console for Wii U, and we plan to make it so you can play it on the Wii U GamePad alone,” a Nintendo of America representative stated.
No confirmation on when we can expect this feature to be added, of course, but it’s worth keeping an eye on nonetheless. Taking games with you around the house may not sound groundbreaking, but this semi-portability is much appreciated by folks like us who can’t stand to be away for bathroom breaks, snack breaks, or anything else that necessitates going into another room.
