‘XCOM: Enemy Unknown’ first DLC adds new missions, early access to powerful weapon

The Slingshot Content Pack sends players on a series of missions for the Council that can result in early access to the Blaster Launcher.

Those that purchase the Slingshot Content Pack for XCOM will be notified by the shadowy Council of an enigmatic Triad operative named Zhang. Turns out he’s had an attack of conscience with the whole alien invasion thing and he’s offering XCOM some technology. This sets off a story arc that features three new missions on brand new maps. Oh, and Zhang joins your squad as well as a playable character. There’s also new voice and soldier customization options included.

The only way to access the new missions is by starting a new game of XCOM. Once started, Zhang and his story arc will be the first missions offered by the council instead of the usual bomb disposal or escorting a VIP mission. Also, the new maps will not be available in multiplayer.

So what is the reward for helping out Zhang? Early access to the Blaster Launcher; a weapon that you typically don’t get to research until the end of the game, if you make it that far. The launcher is an incredibly powerful upgrade over the rocket launcher for the Heavy class that could help tip the scales when facing down some of the more difficult foes on Classic difficulty or above.

A price and release date have not yet been announced for the Slingshot Content Pack.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is VGW-approved with a 4.5 out of 5 in our review of the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC strategy game. Our last Unlimited Ammo podcast was also dominated with alien invasion tactics discussion as we performed an XCOM-themed opening and  lamented our poor strategery.

They should get their first patch going actually :S

  2. Synge says:

So it makes the game easier? Yea, cause that what I want from DLC…

Would much prefer a different reward, or none at all if the three story missions are fun, than a super powerful end game weapon.
