XSEED announces stellar 2013 lineup including ‘Killer is Dead’ and more

YsIIIChron1 300x168 XSEED announces stellar 2013 lineup including Killer is Dead and more North American publisher XSEED Games has just announced their 2013 release lineup, and it’s full of quality Japanese titles for the upcoming year. Ys I & II Chronicle+ will be first to arrive in February, followed by previously-announced Pandora’s Tower, Killer is DeadRune Factory 4Ys: Memories of Celeceta, and Valhalla Knights 3 over the next 11 months.

Killer is Dead is perhaps the most hotly-anticipated of XSEED’s 2013 releases, as it is acclaimed developer SUDA51, Grasshopper Manufacture, and Kadokawa Gamess’ upcoming action thriller reminiscent of Killer7 and No More Heroes. The game features assassin Mondo Zappa, who wields a katana in his right hand and a cyborg left arm that can transform into various weapons such as a gun or a drill. The game is slated for a worldwide summer 2013 release, and we highly suggest checking out its exciting, stylized trailer below.

Next up is Rune Factory 4 for the Nintendo 3DS, also scheduled for a summer 2013 release. Though Natsume has generally been in charge of Rune Factory localizations in the past, XSEED has also previously published Rune Factory Frontier for the Wii. Given their stellar localization standards, we couldn’t be happier that they’ve picked this one up. Fans of Harvest Moon-like farming simulators with RPG elements thrown in and more eligible bachelors and bachelorettes than you can shake a stick at would do well to keep this one on your radar.

Valhalla Knights 3 actually marks the forth Valhalla Knights title to be published by XSEED, and will be coming to the PS Vita this fall. The game is a robust action RPG with extensive character creation options, including seven different races and twenty different class options. Also coming to the PS Vita is Ys: Memories of Celeceta, the latest installment in the fan-favorite action RPG series. The game acts as a re-imagining of Ys IV, one of the only Ys games that hasn’t yet seen a North American release, and boasts more enemies on a single screen than ever before.

Finally, XSEED Game’s next release (not the first of the year, that award goes to Corpse Party: Book of Shadows) is coming up fast: Ys I & II Chronicles+ will be launching on Steam on February 15th. It’s already up for preorder at 15% off, and it goes without saying that $12.74 for the enhanced games is a great deal. The plus in the title indicates that the game is actually a compilation of Ys I & II Chronicles and Ys I & II Complete, meaning it features multiple art styles and soundtracks to choose from along with selectable difficulty and various window modes. Of course, it also features Steam additions such as achievements and cloud saving.

2013 looks to be a great year for fans of XSEED Games and niche Japanese titles. Viva Japanese games!
