Your Franchise Sucks: Resident Evil

Umbrella Inc 300x300 Your Franchise Sucks: Resident EvilWelcome to the third episode in our new bi-weekly series which focuses on why various, iconic franchises are actually garbage. Granted, some of them may be loving garbage, but garbage nonetheless. This is in no way meant to be a rational, critical examination of a franchise, but rather a group of gamers discussing their love and hatred, rational or not. This week, Resident Evil goes under the knife.

This week, Jen and Jim are joined by Adam Greene from Marooner’s RockKyle Gaddo from The Gaming Vault and Max Parker from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, as they discuss their love and hatred of this franchise. Believe it or not, every one of our members has both good and ill to speak about this franchise as we traverse its 16-year history.

Yes, NeverDead is mentioned. Just roll with it, people.

First thing. I like Ada Wong, I want to know how her story progresses.

But hey, finally a series where I have played a bunch of entries. I haven’t played them all because Nintendo kid, but because of that I enjoyed so much my first time playing Resident Evil 2 since it had the option of using normal controls, so no tank mode for me. That said RE2 is awesome, the action is great and it has the moments that make you jump out of your seat plus it was the first game in my life that I had to start again as soon as I finished it and every now and then I pop it into my Pikachu N64 and blast some stuff up.

Then I got the chance to play RE 3: Nemesis on PC years after and I just was a little overwhelmed by it and couldn’t finish it, I think I got only halfway through, and damn that Nemesis was scary.

After that I got RE 4 and maaaaaaan it delivers. I had some magazines where they had a guide for the first part of the game (the village) and I read it millions of times because it looked so freaking great, funny thing I first played it with a friend in his PS2 because he told me he was stuck and since I read the guide so many times I knew exactly what to do and I fell in love with the game, wehn I finally got it for GCN I was blown away… I loved every bit of it, EVERY SINGLE ONE. The first time I finished it I started again and it was like that several times. I think that my favorite part is when the helicopter comes in your help, so freaking awesome.
Finally on Wii I bought RE 4 again and it was even more awesome, the pointer controls feel great and you can plug the GCN controller for the old times. Also I played the Chronicles games and those are super fun too. Being able to know a little more about Leon and Krauser’s relationship was nice.

Oh, i almost forget… RE 5… Honestly that game is so forgettable… I always say that it’s a competent and sometimes very fun shooter experience but it’s not a good RE game, I mean…. the freaking volcano fight? UGH. One of the dlc’s was kinda cool… the one in the mansion…

But yeah, the franchise is sucking more and more….
And if you can’t tell, my fav game is Resident Evil 4.

    That’s it, nice podcast people!
